Add VAT to a price, or remove VAT from a VAT-inclusive total.

VAT rates vary significantly by country — the UK standard rate is 20%, most EU countries range 17-27%, and many apply reduced rates to specific goods (food, books, children's items). Set the rate field to match your jurisdiction and item category.

Worked Example

Example: Net price £100, VAT rate 20%. VAT amount = £20.00. Gross price = £120.00. Reverse: a £120 gross total at 20% VAT means the net price was £100 and VAT was £20.

Formula

Gross = Net × (1 + VAT%/100)
VAT Amount = Gross − Gross / (1 + VAT%/100) (when working backward from gross)
