Calculate horsepower from torque and RPM.

This is the general engineering formula relating rotational power to torque and speed — it applies to any rotating mechanical system, not just car engines, and is the formula behind engine dyno horsepower/torque curves crossing at exactly 5,252 RPM.

Worked Example

Example: 300 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 RPM: HP = (300 × 4000) / 5252 = 228.5 HP.

Formula / Method

Horsepower = (Torque (lb-ft) × RPM) / 5,252

Worked Example

Example: 300 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 RPM: HP = (300 × 4000) / 5252 = 228.5 HP.

Formula / Method

Horsepower = (Torque (lb-ft) × RPM) / 5,252
